In Zhaoxing Dong Village, southwest China's Guizhou Province, the Dong people still preserve the tradition of handmade cloth and costumes. Different from other cotton clothes, the Dong cloth is shiny with a metal luster, giving it the name "bright cloth."
Dong cloth is made by constant dip-dyeing, drying, and hammering the woven cloth soaked in dye consisting of indigo, liquor, cowhide juice, and egg whites. The glistening cloth is not only waterproof but also suits the cool weather of Guizhou.
