Liping County in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Guizhou Province has 98 traditional villages, the largest number of villages in any county in China. One of the well-preserved ones here, Huanggang Dong Village, is inhabited by people of the ethnic Dong minority group known of their simple rural life.

There five drum towers in the village, each having a wooden board that records the 24 solar terms as a reference for villagers to know their meaning for the agricultural activities. The Dong people believe in animism and regard trees as Fengshui trees. Therefore, after decades' efforts by villagers, Huanggang Dong Village is surrounded by dense forest, which helps to keep a good natural environment for many years.
