China's southern island province of Hainan is on its way to becoming a free trade port following the project announcement on June 1, 2020.

Given that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has served as China's largest free trade port, some are worried that Hong Kong's future role may be replaced by Hainan.

In an interview with CGTN at the China International Consumer Products Expo on Friday, Jacky Chung, director of the Chinese mainland of Hong Kong Trade Development Council, said Hong Kong is complementary with Hainan.
