U.S. Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines visited the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on Thursday as Washington seeks to round out its policy on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Her visit came after Wednesday's trilateral meeting with her South Korean and Japanese counterparts in Tokyo with cooperation on the DPRK's denuclearization topping their shared agenda.

Yonhap reported that the top intelligence official was expected to take a brief tour of the Joint Security Area in the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom, among other areas.

During her stay in Seoul, Haines will also meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Suh Hoon, South Korea's top national security advisor.

On May 21, Moon will visit the White House for talks with U.S. President Joe Biden and their talk topics include how to push forward efforts to stem the nuclear program of the DPRK, according to Moon's office and the White House.

The administration of Biden recently announced that it had completed the review of its DPRK policy.

Denuclearization talks between Pyongyang and Washington have stalled since the summit talks between Kim and Trump ended fruitless at the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi in February 2019.
