Chief Minister of India's national capital New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday announced that the city's lockdown has been extended by one more week till next Monday.
New Delhi has been under lockdown since April 19 in light of a surge in COVID-19 cases which form the country's second wave of the pandemic. India has reported over 300,000 new daily cases of COVID-19 for over 20 days since April 22.
Kejriwal said that the lockdown is being extended as the gains made so far in combating COVID-19 cannot be lost to relaxation now.
The movement of people and economic activity are prohibited in the lockdown with exemptions for essential travel.
