China's Taiwan region will deny entry to non-Taiwan residents and suspend transit to travelers from Wednesday in response to the increasing local COVID-19 infections, the local disease control authorities announced on Monday.

In response to the surge in cases, authorities raised the COVID-19 alert level for Taipei and New Taipei City to Level 3 on Saturday, the first time the alert has been imposed in Taiwan.
