The United Nations Security Council held an emergency open meeting on Sunday on the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The meeting was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi via video link, as China holds the presidency of the Security Council this month. Addressing the meeting, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate end to the fighting between Palestinians and Israelis. 

For his part, Wang made a four-point appeal, calling for an immediate ceasefire and end to the violence, humanitarian assistance for the victims, international cooperation to end the violence, and efforts to reach a two-state solution to the Palestinian question.
