The Chinese mainland is ready to do its utmost to help compatriots in Taiwan overcome the epidemic as soon as possible, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, on Monday.

She made the remarks as Taiwan on the same day confirmed 335 new cases of COVID-19, of which 333 were classified as local infections, breaking its daily record of local infections for the fourth consecutive day.

Taiwan region will deny entry to non-Taiwan residents and suspend transit to travelers from Wednesday in response to the increasing local COVID-19 infections, the local disease control authorities announced on Monday.

In response to the surge in cases, authorities raised the COVID-19 alert level for Taipei and New Taipei City to Level 3 on Saturday, the first time the alert has been imposed in Taiwan.

Stressing the importance of putting life first, Zhu said that the top priority is to remove the man-made political obstacles when the majority of Taiwan compatriots are eager to use the vaccine from the mainland.

"People from all walks of life on the mainland always care about the life, health and safety of our compatriots in Taiwan region," she added.
