The United Nations (UN) Security Council has been holding an emergency open meeting on the conflict between Israel and Palestine in Gaza. Addressing the meeting, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate end to the fighting between Palestinians and Israelis. He also decried Israeli fatalities from rockets launched from Gaza.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki has accused Israel of "war crimes" in its nearly week-long offensive as he urged international pressure to tackle the conflict.
