China welcomes the United States to fulfill its promise to share COVID-19 vaccines with the world, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Tuesday, questioning the motives behind Washington talking about China on the donation of jabs.

U.S. President Joe Biden has said his country would share 80 million vaccine doses with other countries and noted that the number is more than that of Russia and China.

"Vaccines are key tools to save lives, and they are not for creating immunization gap or political manipulation," said Zhao.

China will not use vaccines to lead the world or secure favors from other countries, he added.
