China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to certain people in the U.S. attempting to interrupt, impede and sabotage the preparations and hosting of the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022 on the grounds of so-called human rights issues, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday.

Zhao made the remarks after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's appeal for a boycott against the Winter Olympics in Beijing on the pretext of human rights issues, saying the comments made by certain U.S. politicians are a typical American farce full of lies and will end in vain.

Zhao further stated that America is certainly not a beacon of democracy, as extreme thoughts and xenophobia in the U.S. like white supremacy, African American discrimination, Asian hate and Islamophobia are infused in U.S. society.

Zhao stated that the act of politicizing sports goes against the spirit of the Olympic Charter, which stipulates the independent nature and political neutrality of Olympic sports. It will also harm the interests of athletes from all countries and the international Olympic cause, and is definitely opposed by the international community, Zhao added.

In the end, Zhao urged certain U.S. politicians to stop playing despicable political tricks with Olympic sports and stop playing against global athletes and Winter Olympic fans, adding that preparations for the Beijing Winter Olympics are progressing smoothly and have been highly recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
