Chinese racer Zhou Guanyu claimed his first sprint race title of the Formula 2 (F2) season, also his second victory this year, during the F2 Championship at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on Friday.

Starting from the pole position, the 21-year-old UNI-Virtuosi Racing driver had a comfortable win during the 30-lap race as he maintained his lead starting from the Turn 1.

In the final five laps, Zhou was not troubled by a safety car caused by Campos Racing's Gianluca Petecof. He made a quick restart and powered to victory after surpassing teammate Felipe Drugovich.

Zhou made history as the first Chinese driver to win a F2 sprint race in Russia's Sochi in September, last year.

His strength continued with his maiden F2 feature race champion captured in Bahrain in March this year.

Currently, Zhou is the F2 championship leader with a total of 41 points, ahead of second-placed Liam Lawson of Team Hitech with 30 points and third-placed Jehan Daruvala of Team Red Bull Junior with 28 points.

The F2 Monaco championship's second race (30 laps) and third race (42 laps) will be held in the morning and afternoon sessions respectively on May 22.
