Yuan Longping, the globally renowned Chinese agronomist known for developing the first hybrid rice strains, died at 13:07 BJT on Saturday at the age of 91. 

He has helped China work a great wonder -- feeding nearly one-fifth of the world's population with less than nine percent of the world's total land.
