An explosion at an office building in Dongning City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has killed eight people and injured four others, local authorities said on Wednesday.

All of the wounded were sent to the hospital for treatment and the person in charge is in police custody.

The blast was caused by the unlawful production and storage of explosives, local police said after preliminary investigation.
