A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan to stop blocking COVID-19 vaccines from the mainland, calling the obstruction the biggest political obstacle for people in Taiwan to access the vaccines.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, told a press briefing on Wednesday that the DPP authorities should prioritize people's health and safety rather than play with political tricks.
She also reaffirmed the mainland's willingness to provide help to the region which is seeing a surge in cases over the recent weeks.

Zhu reiterated that the World Health Assembly's rejection of the Taiwan region's request to participate has shown once again that there is no way out for "Taiwan independence" and it is unpopular to hype up the Taiwan issue at the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The mainland has always attached great importance to the health and well-being of people in Taiwan, said Zhu. Under the one-China principle, which is a consensus among the international community, the mainland has made various efforts for Taiwan to take part in global health events, and its access to all the information over COVID-19 control and prevention and to aid and assistance is open and effective, she added.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the mainland has notified Taiwan about the epidemic 260 times and approved the participation of Taiwan health experts in WHO technical activities 16 times, said Zhu.
The so-called "loopholes" Taiwan claims in its fight against COVID-19 are simply political lies that the DPP authorities use to seek "Taiwan independence," she added.
Zhu made it clear the fact that the DPP authorities deny the 1992 Consensus that embodies the one-China principle and insist on a separatist stance of "Taiwan independence" leads to the non-existence of the political foundation for the Taiwan region to participate in the World Health Assembly.
