The rate of serious adverse effects from China's COVID-19 vaccines is extremely low and the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated on Friday.

CDC statistics revealed that 31,434 adverse reaction cases were reported from December 15, 2020, to April 30, 2021, on the Chinese mainland after a total of 265 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered, with a rate of 11.86 per 100,000 doses.

Among the adverse reactions, normal reactions like fever and swelling accounted for 82.96 percent, or 9.84 per 100,000 doses, and abnormal reactions like an allergic rash at 17.04 percent, or 2.02 per 100,000 doses.

A total of 188 cases of severe adverse reactions were reported, with the incidence of 0.07 per 100,000 doses, which means "extremely rare," said the CDC.

It pointed out that China-developed COVID-19 vaccines' adverse reaction rate is lower than the average rate of adverse reactions to other Chinese vaccines reported in 2019.

Some countries have also reported the surveillance of adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccine inoculation, most of which are also systemic symptoms like sore arm, fever, headache, diarrhea, fatigue, and limb pain, said the CDC, adding that some reported cases of severe adverse reactions, such as severe allergic reactions, have been assessed as possibly vaccine-related, while others are being monitored and studied.
