Vietnam has detected a new coronavirus variant with characteristics from the existing Indian and UK variants, Vietnam's online newspaper VnExpress reported, citing the country's health minister Nguyen Thanh Long on Saturday.

Viral cultures in the laboratory revealed that the virus replicated itself very quickly, said the minister.
