Belarus's state-owned airline Belavia hit back at European governments on Saturday after they imposed airspace restrictions on the carrier. In a statement, the head of the airline said moves to punish Belavia were "despicable," given that the authorities had not yet investigated the incident.

Many European countries have grown increasingly concerned over the forced landing of a passenger jet by Belarus on Sunday, calling the action "piracy." The United States is also stepping in.
