China claimed an easy win of 7-0 over Guam in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (Asian Football Confederation, AFC) game in Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province on Sunday night.

The seven goals came from Wu Lei (2), Jin Jingdao, Wu Xi, Ai Kesen and A Lan (2).

Considering that Guam and China are No. 198 and No. 77 respectively on FIFA's world ranking table, it makes sense for Guam to park the bus from the beginning of the game. That left enough space on the field for China to move the ball around, especially in the two wings, but Chinese players were still a bit sloppy making the last pass or shooting.

Things took a favorable turn for China in the 20th minute. China cut the ball in Guam's field before Wu Lei broke into the box and taken down by Guam's goalkeeper, earning a penalty kick. Wu Lei made it by himself, scoring the first goal for the Chinese national team since Li Tie took over as manager.

Nineteen minutes later, Wu Xi was controlling the ball in front of Guam's box and found Jin who cut inside from back with a smart pass. Jin did not waste the chance, making it 2-0 for China.

China was more dominant than the two-goal advantage could show in the first half. They led 89 percent – 11 percent in ball possession, 16-0 in attempts and 5-0 in shots on target.

The first 45 minutes gave China enough time to adapt to both Guam's defense and actual competition on the field – it's the first formal game for China in 543 days because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chinese players were getting better finding the target with their passes. All five goals in the second half were scored in offense that began from the two wings. Wu Lei, Wu Xi, Ai Kesen and A Lan (2) broke Guam's net at 55th, 61st, 65th, 82nd and 86th minute for China.

China will meet the Maldives next on Thursday.
