Two residential communities in Liwan District in south China's Guangzhou City have been put under lockdown amid a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, local authorities said on Monday.

Residents are not allowed to leave their homes and daily essentials will be provided by the district authorities, said the statement issued by local health authorities.

The district has confirmed 21 local transmissions and five asymptomatic cases as of Monday.
