The 15 wild Asian elephants that recently went on a walkabout in southwest China are continuing their journey northward and approaching Kunming, provincial capital of Yunnan Province. The giant animals have already wandered nearly 400 kilometers. Local authorities said it is rare for them to move so far north from their nature reserves in Xishuangbanna Prefecture. Measures have been taken to prevent human-elephant conflict as the elephants may well stray into human settlements.
