China's northwestern region of Xinjiang has seen a dramatic improvement in quality of life, with per capita disposable income rising more than 8 percent annually over the past five years. This is because its rural labor force can find stable and well-paying jobs in and outside the region. Despite the facts, allegations of forced labor in Xinjiang continue to make headlines in the West, even after being debunked.
