The visiting Phoenix Suns eliminated the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers from the playoffs on Thursday night with a 113-100 victory in Game 6 of a Western Conference first-round series.

LeBron James scored 29 points for the No. 7 seed Lakers, but his partner Anthony Davis lasted just five minutes, 25 seconds while trying to play through a left groin strain that kept him out of Game 5.

Before the loss, the NBA star James had a 14-0 first-round series record in playoff appearances for the Lakers, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat. And it was the first time James suffered a loss in a first-round playoff series in his career.

Devin Booker scored 47 points during the Sun's first visit to the playoffs since 2010.

Booker has a tattoo on his forearm of the message that Kobe Bryant wrote for him on a pair of shoes after they faced each other at Staples Center six years ago: "Be legendary."

Afterward, in the arena tunnel, Booker got a signed jersey from another hero and mentor: James, who could only marvel at his up-and-coming friend's brilliance in Game 6.

"I love everything about D-Book," James said. "We've had numerous conversations in the past. When you want to be legendary in this game, you've got to continue to improve not only your game but also as a man. All the conversations we've had, I can tell he's soaked them up and is using them to his advantage."
