Four people were killed and over 170,000 were affected by days of strong gales and heavy rains which lashed out across Sri Lanka over the last few days, the Disaster Management Center said on Saturday.

Until Saturday morning, seven people were still missing due to the inclement weather while two people were injured.

Sri Lanka's irrigation department issued a flood alert in several areas of the country.

Those living in these areas were cautioned to evacuate as the water levels in the Kelaniya River continue to rise.
