The Ministry of Natural Resources said on Friday China has finished preliminary work of defining its ecological "red line" - which places certain regions with important ecological functions under mandatory and rigorous protection. That includes 35 regions aimed to protect biodiversity, as well as various nature reserves, scenic areas, forest parks and geological parks. Authorities believe the "red line" can protect 85 percent of what it calls "important" wild animals and 90 percent of ecological land systems.
