Finance ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations are in London for two days of talks. The meeting aims to reach a global deal to raise taxes on internet companies and the global profits of big multinational firms because such firms often book profits in jurisdictions where they pay little or no tax. The G7, backed by U.S. President Joe Biden's willingness to raise taxes on large businesses, gives more chances of a consensus worldwide for such a deal. The issue is also made more significant by the need to raise public finances depleted by COVID-19 spending.
