An injured dolphin that seemed to be trapped in a bay in Haikou, south China's Hainan Province, was rescued on Friday and sent to a professional wildlife center.
Rescuers spotted the animal at around 7 a.m. in Longzhu Bay and initially tried to guide it back to the sea, using a net to stop it from heading to the shore.
However, they had to change tactics after the animal suddenly turned back and swam into the net. It was eventually lifted into an aquatic-wildlife transport vehicle and sent to a professional wildlife rescue center.
The dolphin was found to have a serious abdominal injury. The rescue center said it will provide treatment and 24-hour monitoring.
