CGTN

About 3,500 "city volunteers" for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, who will assist with sightseeing and transportation information, have decided to withdraw, broadcaster NHK reported on Sunday.

This comes after roughly 10,000 out of 80,000 "field cast" volunteers pulled out of the events, NHK said. The volunteers were due to work at event venues and the athletes' village.

The number of people quitting the events is expected to further increase, according to the report, with Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture yet to submit their withdrawal numbers.
