Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday lauded the sound and steady development of China-Vietnam ties.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with Vietnam's Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, who is now in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality for a Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Dialogue Relations.

Noting the bilateral trade volume exceeded $70 billion in the first four months of this year, with a year-on-year growth rate of more than 40 percent, Wang said it fully demonstrates the enormous cooperation potential and reflects the high level of good neighborly relations.

The Chinese foreign minister also called for promoting traditional friendship, enhancing strategic mutual trust, and deepening pragmatic cooperation to benefit two peoples and to better serve the economic and social development of both countries.

"China firmly supports the new leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam's (CPV) efforts on governance and supports Vietnam in pursuing a socialist path that suits its national conditions," Wang stressed.

He urged the two sides to take practical actions to support each other's important political agendas as well as safeguarding and expanding their common interests.

Wang also voiced China's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19, adding China supports its pharmaceutical enterprises to cooperate with Vietnam in vaccine research and development, production, and procurement.

Bui Thanh Son, for his part, said developing the ties between two parties and two countries is always Vietnam's firm choice and diplomatic priority.

Son said that Vietnam warmly congratulates the Communist Party of China (CPC) on its 100th anniversary, which speaks highly of the great achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC.

Vietnam supports raising the strategic position of ASEAN-China relations, and is ready to work with China to drive forward the Lancang-Mekong cooperation and enhance coordination and cooperation in such multilateral institutions as the United Nations, Son added.
