China will always support Myanmar in choosing a development path best suited to its national conditions, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday.

Wang made the remarks during his meeting with the visiting Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin in China's southwestern city of Chongqing.

China's friendly policy toward Myanmar is not affected by changes to Myanmar's domestic and external situation, said Wang, adding that the policy is always for Myanmar's people.

During their talks, Wang hailed the bilateral ties between China and Myanmar, as the two countries mark the 71st anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations this year.

Under the guidance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence championed by both countries, China is willing to work with Myanmar to further promote the development of the China-Myanmar community with a shared future, Wang said.

For his part, U Wunna Maung Lwin expressed his appreciation for China's support for the peace and reconciliation process in Myanmar, saying he is willing to keep communicating with the Chinese side on this topic.

The two sides vowed to deepen cooperation in the fight against COVID-19.
