Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday hailed bilateral ties between China and Thailand, saying the two countries are as close as brothers and great partners of mutual trust. 

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in China's southwestern city of Chongqing.

Wang also exchanged views with his counterpart on coronavirus prevention, Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation and China-ASEAN dialogue relations.

China-Thailand vaccine cooperation has achieved notable progress with Thai people being inoculated with large amounts of Chinese vaccines, demonstrating their trust and confidence in Chinese vaccines, according to Wang.

"China will continue to do its best to meet the Thai side's vaccine demand and encourage enterprises from both countries to establish the vaccine filling center in Thailand," he said.

Wang also said China supports a deep docking of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the speed-up of interconnectivity.

The Chinese foreign minister urged the Thai side to work together to build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future and voiced China's support for Thailand to host next year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leader's meeting.

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN, Wang stressed the necessity of maintaining the ASEAN-centered regional cooperation structure and promoting regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

The U.S. "Indo-Pacific strategy" is full of cold war mentality, deliberately provoking confrontation, shaking the foundations of regional cooperation and undermining the prospects for regional development, Wang said, calling on stakeholders to remain highly vigilant against U.S. acts.

For his part, Don said Thailand and China, as good friends and good relatives, have long enjoyed mutual understanding and support.

Don thanked China for offering valuable support and sincere assistance to Thailand in its fight against the pandemic and voiced hope that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation on epidemic prevention and control.

He said Thailand stands ready to take the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the fifth anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) as an opportunity to push for new progress in regional cooperation.

Recalling his visit to Chongqing 20 years ago, Don said he was deeply impressed by the dramatic changes in the city.

"Chongqing's achievements are a microcosm of China's development in the new era, which fully demonstrates that China has chosen a correct development path that suits its national conditions, and I believe China will usher in a brighter future," he said.
