2 injured in magnitude-5.1 quake in China's Yunnan

Two people were injured and 2,669 houses were damaged as of 10:30 a.m. Friday after a magnitude-5.1 earthquake jolted Shuangbai County in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China's Yunnan Province late Thursday.

The quake struck at 7:46 p.m. on Thursday at a depth of 8 km, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. 

The local government has earmarked 1 million yuan (about $156,000) and mobilized 3,420 people to carry out the relief work. Life necessities such as tents, quilts, beds and rice have been delivered to residents in the area.
