The 24th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) will be held for ten days from June 11-20 this year, with the Golden Goblet Awards ceremony on June 19.

The official posters for the event feature a special train running on a railway track made by roll film. The SIFF committee said the reproduction is a tribute to the first film in history, "The Arrival of a Train." The silent French documentary, made in 1895, recorded how a train arrived at a train station in Paris.

According to the SIFF committee, the design also reflects the efforts Chinese moviemakers have made in developing China's movie industry. "The Chinese film industry is like a train which has kept moving forward over the past century. The train in the poster connects the history and the future," the committee said.

Last year, the SIFF poster was designed with the theme of "Reunion." In order to control the spread of the COVID-19, many cinemas in China remained closed until July 20 in 2020 when authorities said cinemas in low-risk areas could gradually reopen.

The poster in 2019 was inspired from a classic Chinese cartoon "The Monkey King," which is a household image in Chinese literature and movies. In 2018, the poster featured the trophy of the Golden Goblet Awards – the main prize of the SIFF.

The trophy of the Golden Goblet Awards is an ancient Chinese wine container called "Jin Jue" in Chinese. With strong oriental roots, it combines beauty and antiquity quite well. The SIFF film posters from 2012 to 2017 all featured the trophy.

Founded in 1993, the SIFF is the only competitive film festival in China approved by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). It was held biennially from 1993 to 2001 and then annually from 2004.
