Recently, a herd of 15 elephants has travelled 500 kilometers northward from their original habitat and has made a temporary stop in the outskirts of Kunming, the capital city of China’s southwest Yunnan Province. This rare and surprising exodus far north has been causing lots of interest on social media. What prompted the epic journey? And what’s being done to deal with the unprecedented migration, as the elephants get closer to populated areas?
