The 2021 China Movie & TV Night, an important 24th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) event, drew its curtain at Shanghai International Media Port on Saturday evening. 

The event was organized by the Shanghai Bureau of the China Media Group (CMG) under the theme of "Glorious 2021" and focused on promoting outstanding new films and TV drama releases this year and cheered for the domestic film and television industry in China over the past year.

Yan Xiaoming, vice president of CMG, and Zhou Huilin, member of the Standing Committee and director of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered speeches during the event, expressing their support for China's motion picture industry and their hope to make SIFF a world-class film festival.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Several films with a revolutionary history theme were promoted at the event. Chinese actor Wang Baoqiang, Chinese actresses Liu Mintao and Tao Hong attended the event as promotion ambassadors.

The segment titled "Commendation" showcased movies and dramas reflecting the revolutionary history of the CPC, including films like "1921" and "Wang Dao," and TV series like "The Decisive Battle" and "Zhong Liu Ji Shui," both of which were produced by CMG.

In the "Times" segment, films and TV dramas featuring modern Chinese heroes who've made an outstanding contribution to society took center stage. Biographical drama "Medal of the Republic" was among them. It tells the story of eight modern heroes, including Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice," and Tu Youyou, a Nobel Laureate of China who spent her life fighting malaria. 

Meanwhile, the "Dream" segment promoted several films, including the fantasy romance movie "The Curse of Turandot" and domestic animation films "White Snake II" and "New Happy Dad and Son 4."

A white paper on the "Development of the Movie and TV Dramas in China" was also released during the event, showing the general development of China's film and TV dramas in the past year.

This year's SIFF runs from June 11 to June 20.
