Various religions have flourished in Xinjiang over the ages and have become a key aspect of the region's unique history and identity. Today, Islam and Buddhism are the two most followed religions in the region, with Protestantism, Catholicism and Taoism also having substantial adherents. During a recent visit to Qingquan Zen Temple, Yanghang Islamic Mosque and Mingde Road Christian Church in Urumqi and after conversations with the local religious leaders, CGTN Digital found that the commitment to religious pluralism, harmony and peaceful co-existence appears equally strong today.
