A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday again urged Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority to stop politicizing COVID-19 vaccines and allow local parties as well as public organizations in Taiwan to carry out purchase deal with Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group CO Ltd as soon as possible.

Local media in Taiwan reported on Friday the DPP authority allowed Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) and Yonglin Education Foundation to negotiate on its behalf for 10 million COVID-19 vaccine doses with Fosun, which has a contract with BioNTech to exclusively develop and sell the vaccine in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

The DPP authority required the vaccines to be directly donated to it if deals were struck and said it will continue to reach to the German biotechnology company and distribution partners for more shots.

But the DPP authority also warned there was no guarantee of success on a deal.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, commenting on the DPP authority's latest move, called it to stop playing political tricks and creating obstacles when the island is now in bad need of vaccines.

"We hope that counties and cities on the island, public parties and Fosun will reach an early agreement on the purchase of vaccines in accordance with business rules, so that Taiwan residents can use the much-needed vaccines as soon as possible," Ma said on Friday.
