The U.S. Embassy in Kabul has been placed on lockdown as COVID-19 cases surge in Afghanistan. One employee has died and 114 have tested positive. The embassy has confined all staff to their living quarters. The lockdown comes as the embassy is helping coordinate the U.S. military withdrawal. The American Foreign Service Association has warned the outbreak could have "potentially grave" consequences to U.S. foreign policy and urged the Biden administration to take swift action.
