Wandering elephants wear 'straw hat' to escape the heat
As the weather gets hotter in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the wandering wild Asian elephants are finding ways to escape the scorching heat. An expert said that these methods demonstrate the herd's astute skills for surviving in changing conditions and also indicate quick physical recovery and adaptability to new environments.
The herd of elephants has received global attention during their northbound journey in the province. They have been away from their original habitat in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan's south for two months, and with the current direction of travel show no intention of returning. The local government has been making every effort to guide the animals to a suitable habitat and compensating villagers for the economic losses while avoiding any conflict between elephants and humans.
