The spirit of building the Hongqi Canal, or the Red Flag spirit, has become a national inspiration. Professor Xia Lu at the School of Marxism Studies, Renmin University of China, says the Red Flag spirit stands for perseverance and solidarity, and Chinese people never cease to show innovation and resolution to tackle all obstacles.
