Ebrahim Raisi has been elected Iran's next president. Election officials said he won with about 62 percent of the vote. But turnout was much lower than previous elections after several opponents were disqualified or dropped out.

Several world leaders, including the Russian president and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi have congratulated Raisi. The 60-year-old conservative cleric will take over from Hassan Rouhani at a critical time, as the country seeks to salvage a tattered nuclear deal and revive its economy.
