More than 30 ambassadors visited China's Ministry of Transport on Monday where they got to see more of China's key transport developments. It's part of a series of visits to show the foreign diplomats a more complete picture of China.

During the tour, Minister of Transport Li Xiaopeng told the foreign diplomats the country is set to make transportation safer, greener, more economic and efficient.

As an example, foreign diplomats were led into Beijing Metro Network Control Center where they were shown how the municipality smoothly runs its massive and complex underground network.

"It's a major achievement with so many routes, very impressive. And the network is also constantly expanding, saving a lot of carbon emission. This is exactly what we need," Iceland Ambassador to China Gunnar Gunnarson told CGTN.

Later that day, the ambassadors also had a fun ride on China's futuristic self-driving vehicles, a glimpse into the country's evolving transportation technology.

The UAE ambassador to China, Ali Dhaheri, was surprised by the experience and looked forward to any future cooperation in the field.

"The experience is inspiring, and I believe it is a big milestone to see how advanced China's technology is in the area of autonomous driving," Dhaheri said, "UAE is very advanced in this area as well. We look forward to working together with our Chinese friends."

Speaking to the diplomats, Li also highlighted China's ambition to further improve interconnectivity around the world, especially under the Belt and Road Initiative, which Li described as "launched by China but shared by the world."
