How ancient Chinese determine solar terms with sundials

June 21 marks the Summer Solstice, or Xiazhi in Chinese. It is the 10th solar term of the year on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, which divides a year into 24 solar terms. It is believed to be one of the earliest solar terms determined by ancient Chinese.
