The Detroit Piston acquired the No. 1 pick for the 2021 NBA draft, according to the lottery results announced on Tuesday.

The Pistons began tanking after they agreed to part ways with Blake Griffin in March. The team finished the regular season with a 20-52 record, the worst in the Eastern Conference and the second-worst in the whole league.

"Obviously we get to add another wing player to the restoration process. We're excited to be in this position. But it means that we've got a lot of work to do, and we're going to be diligent about it. But it always helps to be able to add the No. 1 pick," said the team's general manager Troy Weaver.

Though there is a truly loaded talent pool for this year's draft, the Pistons are very likely to select Cade Cunningham from Oklahoma State University. According to ESPN, the 19-year-old swingman will visit only the Pistons before the draft.

The Houston Rockets, which started tanking way earlier than the Pistons by trading James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets in January and finished the regular season with league-bottom 17-55 record, only got the No. 2 pick.

Things will get more complicated from the second selection because several young talents deserve to be drafted in that position. Evan Mobley from the University of Southern California, Jalen Green from the NBA G League's Ignite and Jalen Suggs from Gonzaga University are all hopeful for that.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (No. 3) and the Toronto Raptors (No. 4) may also make their decision from among the aforementioned young boys. Of course, if the three teams plan to trade the picks for star players that can be helpful immediately, it's not their concern who will be drafted.

The Orlando Magic and the Golden State Warriors both have two lottery picks (top 14) this year. The Magic had their own of No. 5 and received No. 8 from the Chicago Bulls in the trade of Nikola Vucevic. The Warriors had their own of No. 14 and received No. 7 from the Minnesota Timberwolves via the trade of D'Angelo Russell.

The Magic and the Warriors are in totally different positions. The Magic are starting over from almost nothing but the Warriors still carry the pressure to win as soon as possible, especially when their franchise player Stephen Curry can choose to resign his contract in the coming off season.

Interestingly, the Warriors selected Curry with the No. 7 pick in 2009 and Chris Mullin, who is already a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer in 1985.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, which have been hoarding draft picks in recent years, got the No. 6 pick. They also have the No. 16, No. 18, No. 34, No. 36 and No. 55 picks for this year's draft. Whether their general manager Sam Presti uses these picks to select players or for trade, the Thunder will become the busiest team at Barclays Center on July 29.
