In February, China declared its victory over extreme poverty. However, the government didn't stop there as it has vowed to build on its gains in poor rural areas and create what it calls a "Xiaokang Shehui," or a "moderately prosperous society" in all aspects.

It has earmarked education for special attention. A CGTN reporter visited a mountainous area in the southwestern Sichuan Province, where regional development has helped to keep students in school, and bring parents back home.
