Wild Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys have been caught on infrared cameras for the first time in Huyi District in Xi'an City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

The monkeys are an indigenous species under first-class state protection in China. Researchers made the discovery when they were sifting through 34,000 pieces of footage captured by cameras installed in 2020 at different locations across Huyi, to the north of Qinling Mountains, a natural habitat of the golden snub-nosed monkeys.
