China's Baihetan hydropower station commences operations

The first set of units of China's mega Baihetan Hydropower Station completed its trial run on June 28 and has started generating electricity. The power generated by the first units will be transmitted to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces to aid in the economic development of the Yangtze River Delta area. The Baihetan Hydropower Station has installed a total of 16 hydroelectric generating units with an installed capacity of one million kilowatts per unit, the world's largest in terms of unit capacity so far.
