Christian Karembeu, champion member of France when they won the FIFA World Cup title in 1998 and the UEFA European Championship title in 2000, shared his opinions on the French national team's performance and prospects in the European Championship in an interview with CGTN.

Les Bleus will play against Switzerland in the Round of 16 Game on Monday after making it out of the competitions with Germany, Hungary and Portugal in Group F. "Didier Deschamps has managed very well. It was a very difficult and competitive group," said Karembeu. "France didn't play very well, but still qualified and remain a favorite in the tournament.”

Karembeu admitted that their opponents Switzerland, which have not won even one game in the knock-out stage at any major tournament in 67 years, are an ideal rival for France. "I think it's a good one because we know each other, we are neighbors. We switch some players and technical staffs," the former France international said.

With Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema, manager Didier Deschamps has enough attacking power to go further in the tournament. "France is capable to score at any moment, but we are still poor on scoring goal with the trio of Mbappe, Griezmann and Benzema," said Karembeu. He also hinted that "Hungary has showed everyone how to play against France" in Group F.

Karembeu believes that the 2018 World Cup champions have the ability to deliver back-to-back major titles under his former teammate Deschamps, something that would match their achievement in 1998 and 2000. "I think the expectation is there, and we don't need to give more pressure to them," said the double winner." They are capable to do the same as what we have done in my generation. Now it's a great generation, we hope that they will go far and to win it again.”
