China welcomes the ceasefire in Ethiopia's conflict-hit Tigray region and supports all parties in the African country to realize national reconciliation through dialogue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

"We also believe that they have the wisdom and ability to handle internal affairs well," Wang added.

Ethiopian government announced late Monday a unilateral ceasefire in the country's conflict-hit northernmost Tigray regional state, following a request by the Tigray regional state interim administration.

The ceasefire is intended to facilitate humanitarian assistance in the region as well as agricultural activities amid the approaching rainy season.
