Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Thursday called on the CPC members to stay true to the Party's founding mission. He stressed the importance of acting on the Party's purpose and maintaining close ties with the people.

Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in his speech at a grand gathering marking the centenary of the CPC.
